Todd Dominey is reporting that Microsoft is planning to release 6 new typefaces free with the next operating system.

As Todd states in his post, Verdana and crew are getting a little long in the tooth and it would be nice to have some fresh typefaces to work with. The problem however may show up in future releases of Mac OS. “…new Mac purchasers could be browsing the web without the typefaces nearly everyone has standardized their sites on.”whatdoiknow.org

If you’ve been diligent in your CSS text formatting, and have included “sans-serif” in your declarations, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue. For those designers that haven’t you could hear complaints in the future that your sites don’t render as they should on anything other than a Windows system.
