I remember reading Roger Johansson’s first article on CSS Frames back in the day and recall being floored that we could still accomplish the effect without the use of frames.

This morning, I read his update to that first article and well, I’m still floored — I’m still muttering to myself. The technique, while not overly simple or complex, is super clean and light weight. It uses fixed positioning and a little bit of Peter-Paul Koch magic to accomplish the 100% height.
